I grew up on tea, plain old Tetley tea (maybe King Cole or Red Rose) but mostly Tetley. Newfoundlanders typically drink a lot of tea. Tea after dinner, tea after supper, tea, tea, tea. I used to ask my grandmother to make me “milky tea” when I was about B’s age (4). There are even stories about people saying Tim Hortons would never make it there because people liked their tea too much. (Meanwhile, how many are there in NL? Yikes.)
So I have loved tea forever. Up until recent years, it’s been pretty basic. Black tea, orange pekoe, no green, no fancy stuff. I don’t remember when I started buying “good” tea. I dabbled in chai, which I still love, then started trying different herbal teas. (I am not a herbal fan, I learned.) I gradually built up to a cupboard with at least 12 different varieties of tea.
So when I saw Amber Strocel‘s Tea Stash post, I thought, great idea.
I need to look in there, see what I have, see what I like, what I don’t … I threw away a box of old no name orange pekoe after I took the photos today. Thanks Amber!
I poked around, took out the teapot, looked way in the back, and realized how much of this I will never drink! I hate herbal tea, I hate weak tea, I hate tea with no flavour. I do have good stuff in there, loose leaf tea from Teaopia. I would love to know learn a little more about brewing it properly so I could enjoy it to its fullest potential. I keep buying tea thinking nice tea after the kids go to bed will keep me from snacking. I won’t mention how that’s going ..
For now, I probably just need to pour up a decaf chai and stay warm. -27 is good tea drinking weather. Cheers!

I’m a tea drinker too, like you, Tetley from about 4. I have even gone so far as to pull leaves from my herb garden and steep them (I read which ones were ‘safe’ before doing so). Thanks for sharing!
Now that I would never have thought of!
I’m a herbal tea fan. “Real” tea – which being English I also grew up on – now gives me a rash if I drink a few cups. So I like peppermint (especially the Bigelow one), Lemon tea (from the Superstore – it’s the best I have found) and a few others from time to time. I can’t drink fruity teas – they give me an acid stomach. Boy I didn’t realize how picky I was until I started typing this!
I think being English gives you a right to be picky about tea, doesn’t it?
Yay! Thanks so much for playing along and showing me your tea.
As for me, being raised by hippies, I’m a herbal tea fan. In fact, we referred to herbal tea as “tea” and regular tea as “caffeine tea”, which I didn’t drink until I was a teenager, so sheltered was I. I think this is also why I don’t take milk in my tea. Who would put milk in a cup of peppermint tea?
Good point. There’s nothing appealing about milk in peppermint tea!
